Etymology

Shehabi Emirs called the village “Heloueh”, which means in English “beautiful” for the beauty of its nature.

Heloueh has a municipal council formed of nine members and headed by Kamal Tawil. There is also a mukhtar and a mayoral council. The municipal council was formed in line with Decision no. 113 of January 31, 1964. The village’s share from the independent municipal fund reached 35.3 million LBP in 2002, compared to 31.8 million LBP in 2003 and 19.5 million LBP in 2004.

The number of registered residents in the official registers is estimated at 650 people who belong to the Druze confession. Heloueh’s cold weather forces the majority of residents to leave the village during wintertime, as only around 150 people remain in the village in the winter compared to 500 in the summer. Heloueh contains around 50 houses.

The number of voters in 2004 reached 423 compared to 376 voters in 2000. Voters are distributed among the following families:

- Abu Qalfouni 97 voters
- Daoud 30 voters
- Ballani 70 voters
- Shway 26 voters
- Tabet 65 voters
- Shoueir 15 voters
- Za’ar 47 voters
- Tawil 10 voters
- Abu Sa’ada 43 voters
- Na’aman 10 voters
- Hadi 10 voters

As only a small number of residents remain in the village in wintertime, no schools were established. Students go to nearby schools located in the towns of Yanta and Manara.

Problems facing the residents

One of the main problems facing the village is bad roads which make it difficult to access. This problem, along with cold weather and lack of work opportunities, forces residents to move to the city, seeking job opportunities.
