Batroun District
Batroun District (kaza, caza, qadaa, قضاء) is one of six districts of North Lebanon Governorate.
Its geographical borders are marked in the south by the river Madfoun, and by the river El Jaouz (Nahr El Jaouz) in the north.
It stretches from the Mediterranean coast to the west, partially covering the flanks of West Lebanon mountain (Mount Lebanon), and reaches the peaks of Jabal El Mnaitri at 2 700 meters.
Its area is 278 square kilometers. It is surrounded in the north by Koura District, in the east by Baalbek District (Baalbek-Hermel Governorate), and in the south it is surrounded by the Jbeil (Byblos) District (Mount Lebanon Governorate).
Batroun District population is estimated to 51 120 inhabitants (which is equivalent to 1.2% of the total population of Lebanon).
Batroun a coastal city hosts its administrative center.
Many ancient monasteries and churches are scattered all over the coast and mountains, especially in the village of Duma where they constitute a touristic attractions. Batroun District is also notable for its Cedar Forest rising on the hills of Tannourine.
