Etymology
There are many legends about the origin of the name of Gharifeh. Many agree that it comes from the Syriac and meant "cliff" or "extended mountains."
Features
The village is surrounded by high mountains and virgin forests declared "nature reserves". This town is famous for its olive oil from olive trees dating from Roman times. A river named "pigeons river" through the village. There are lots of archaeological objects to Gharifeh such as a bridge linking the Chouf to Iqlim el Tuffah, stone mills and ancient Roman jars.
