Etymology
In his book “The Names of Lebanese Villages and Towns”, Anis Freiha says that the name “Loubieh” may be derived from the Persian word “loubia’” which literally means
cowpeas. They are widely cultivated in the village of Loubieh. The name may also be derived from the word “louba” which in its plural form literally means “the free land.” In
his book “Lebanese Towns and Villages” Tony Mfarrej writes that Loubieh was named after Father Labi who lived in an old monastery located in the village.
The municipality’s share from the Independent Municipal Fund amounted to around LBP51.2 million in 2006, and around LBP43.5 million in 2005 compared to LBP36.4 million
in 2004. 1
