The Embassy of France in collaboration with United Cities of France and the Lebanese Committee of municipalities’ presidents will organize a Conference on decentralized cooperation between France and Lebanon" on the 10th , 11th and 12th of July 2011 in Beirut.

Based on the recommendations of Lyon in 2003, the conference on "the Franco – Lebanese Decentralized Cooperation" will provide an opportunity to gather in Lebanon all elected French and Lebanese representatives involved in decentralized partnership in addition to various experts and funding institutions.

With nearly fifty partners involved in around thirty active programs, the Franco - Lebanese decentralized cooperation plays an important role within the effort of the French communities in the Middle East. Implemented projects seek to respond to the needs identified by the Lebanese municipalities, particularly in terms of institutional strengthening, training of executive managers of local authorities in addition to local development programs and numerous challenges that municipalities confront in the course of their work. This conference aims to review the ongoing cooperation and also to support, based on the French experience, the discussions on decentralization issues initiated by the Lebanese Committee of Municipalities’ Presidents and the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities. The various workshops and roundtables held during this event will identify lessons learnt, measure achieved outcomes, enhance the experience and reflect on possible future progress.
