Maroun Er Ras (مارون الراس) is a Lebanese local authority which is located in Bent Jbayl District (Qada'a), an administrative division of Nabatiyeh Governorate (Mohafazah).
The municipality is member of Federation of Bent-Jbayl District Municipalities.

Etymology
The name Maroun Al Ras is composed of two parts: the first part Maroun refers in the roman language to “an honest man”, while the second part Al Ras (in Arabic “the head” or “the top”) refers to the village being the highest point in the region of Jabal A’amel (Mount A’amel).
Location
The village of Maroun Al- Ras, situated 125 km south of Beirut, covers an area of 920 hectares in Qada’a Bent Jbeil in the Nabatiyeh. It stands at an altitude of 945 m above sea level and can be reached by 2 different routes:
Sour - Bent Jbeil - Maroun Al Ras; Or Marja’ayoun - Kafarkela - Maroun Al Ras.
Due to its height, the village has a view of wide Palestinian territories.
Population
The registered population of Maroun Al Ras stands at around 4,551 people, while the number of permanent residents does not exceed 700 people. 99% of the village population is Muslim Shia’a.
The village of Maroun Al Ras counts around 400 houses.

There is only one educational institution in the village called “the Maroun Al Ras Public Complementary School”. There are no official documents on the number of students it holds.
Economic Activities
The economic life is mainly based on the culture of tobacco as well as some grains. The village also has some mini-markets and shops providing people with basic provisional supplies.
Archeological and Cultural Sites
Several archeological items were discovered in Maroun Al Ras counting the following: An ancient undated grotto with epigraphy, many stone-engraved arcs and sarcophagi, ancient medium-seized columns, and an ancient ceramic vessel.
